The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency has unveiled an interactive hologram kiosk designed to help international travelers navigate arrival procedures at Kuala Lumpur International Airport's Terminal 1.
Introduced Oct. 26 during the agency's second-anniversary celebration, the system is scheduled for installation in the airport's satellite building, according to a report in The Star. The digital assistant will provide arriving passengers with information about Malaysia's entry requirements, offering an automated alternative for obtaining guidance on immigration procedures.
The kiosk features a holographic representation of a border control officer that can respond to passenger questions in real time. During a demonstration at the unveiling, the digital avatar answered inquiries in multiple languages, including English and Mandarin. The multilingual capability is intended to make arrival information more accessible to international travelers and reduce communication barriers at one of Malaysia's major international gateways.
Ismail Mokhtar, the agency's deputy director-general for management, said the project was inspired by a similar holographic installation at the Home Ministry's Setia Perkasa Complex in Putrajaya. That system features a digital representation of Malaysia's home minister. The airport installation represents another application of interactive holographic technology in government services, extending its use to passenger assistance and border control information.
