The City of Peterborough in central Ontario, Canada, is taking public engagement directly into neighborhoods this summer through a series of pop-up engagement kiosks, according to a Peterborough Examiner report. Rather than relying solely on city hall meetings or online consultations, municipal staff will set up temporary kiosks at community events and other high-traffic locations, giving residents an opportunity to learn about city initiatives, ask questions and provide feedback in a more informal setting. The effort is intended to make civic engagement more accessible and encourage participation from people who may not attend traditional public meetings.

Peterborough is in the heart of the Kawarthas, a region known for its lakes, boating and outdoor recreation.

The kiosks will serve as mobile information hubs where residents can connect with city staff, complete surveys, learn about ongoing projects and share their views on issues affecting the community. By bringing engagement opportunities into public spaces, officials hope to reach a broader cross-section of residents while increasing awareness of municipal programs and services. The initiative complements the city's online engagement platform, which also offers surveys, interactive maps and comment boards for public input.
