The Yorktown Town Board, in New York, is considering the installation of interactive digital kiosks to improve public access to town information, events and services, according to a North Salem News report.

During a July 7 meeting, representatives from HootBoard demonstrated a system that can display municipal announcements, department information, event calendars, public notices and local attractions. The kiosks can be installed indoors or outdoors and customized with the town's branding.

Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman said the proposal grew out of an effort to replace scattered flyers and improve wayfinding around Town Hall. Officials said the kiosks could provide residents and visitors with easier access to office directories, transportation information, community resources and event listings. Potential installation sites include Town Hall, the Albert A. Capellini Cultural Center and Railroad Park, where officials hope to engage visitors using the nearby bike path.

Board members questioned the system's cost, maintenance requirements, security and how it would complement the town's existing website. The Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce recently adopted the HootBoard platform at its Peekskill office, using it to promote events, connect visitors with local businesses and support advertising through QR codes. The proposed Yorktown deployment carries an estimated cost of $26,398, including nearly $21,000 for hardware and installation and a $5,400 annual software subscription.
