Big Y adds prepared-food ordering kiosks at 79 stores

Big Y Foods has introduced ordering kiosks and expanded online prepared-food ordering across all 79 locations through a partnership with Instacart, according to a press release.

The New England supermarket chain is using FoodStorm, Instacart's prepared-food order management platform, to support customized meals, catering orders, pickup and delivery.

Customers can use the kiosks to order sandwiches, wraps, bowls, pizza, fried seafood and sushi. A separate online storefront accepts immediate and advance pickup orders, including prepaid catering purchases, while delivery is available through the Instacart Marketplace.

For employees, FoodStorm combines kiosk, online and staff-entered orders into one system to coordinate food preparation. The companies said the platform is designed to improve order accuracy, simplify kitchen work and help stores anticipate busy periods as Big Y expands access to its prepared-food offerings.
