Zimbabwe is rolling out 100 mobile health kiosks nationwide to improve access to medical services in rural and underserved communities, according to a Herald Online report. The initiative will use three-wheeled mobile units staffed by nurses to provide medical screenings, consultations and basic healthcare services to residents who otherwise may have to travel long distances for treatment.

The first 10 kiosks, funded by telecommunications provider NetOne, will be distributed among Zimbabwe's 10 provinces, with plans to expand the program to the district level. The units will use solar power and Starlink satellite connectivity to support digital healthcare services and remote consultations. The initiative also includes plans to equip village health workers with bicycles carrying Starlink connectivity equipment.

ZimSmart Villages, a partner in the program, is developing a telehealth network connecting patients with healthcare professionals, diagnostic services and medications. The mobile kiosks are expected to provide an initial point of care while connecting patients to clinicians and established healthcare facilities when additional treatment is necessary.
