Tactile Technologies has expanded its self-service terminal portfolio in South Africa, combining locally manufactured custom kiosks with preconfigured models designed for faster deployment, according to a press release. The Johannesburg-based technology company said the terminals can be used for ordering, payments, information access and registration, with options for integrating payment systems, scanners and biometric technology.

Officials said local manufacturing allows it to tailor terminals to a customer's branding, physical environment, functionality and budget while avoiding long lead times associated with importing customized equipment. Tactile founder Mauro Mercuri said businesses have often had to choose between generic off-the-shelf terminals and customized systems that can take months to arrive from overseas.

Tactile is targeting retail, restaurants and hospitality, health care, transportation, financial services and government applications. The company said its approach includes matching hardware to the operating environment and supporting deployments with locally stocked spare parts, extended warranties, customized service agreements and remote device management. The expanded self-service terminal line is available now to businesses and public-sector organizations in South Africa.
