Convenience stores at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, have introduced self-checkout technology through a collaboration involving Partner Tech USA, LS Retail and Optimus Business Transformation, according to a Partner Tech LinkedIn post. The installation marks the first global deployment of LS Retail's self-checkout platform, which integrates Partner Tech's Alfred Mini self-checkout system.

The technology is designed to streamline purchases and reduce checkout times for passengers traveling through the airport, which handled more than 13 million travelers last year. The companies said the solution is particularly suited to busy airport retail environments, where passengers often have limited time to make purchases before boarding their flights.

Optimus also said the system can be deployed significantly faster than competing self-checkout solutions, although the announcement did not provide installation times. The deployment represents an early commercial application of LS Retail's new platform in a high-traffic travel retail setting.
