Alabama county brings registration renewal kiosk total to 8

Morgan County, Alabama, has installed a vehicle registration renewal kiosk at the Morgan County Event Center in Somerville, giving residents another option for obtaining license plate renewal decals without visiting the county courthouse in Decatur, according to a WHNT News report.

The machine is the county's eighth self-service tag renewal kiosk and is available during the event center's regular business hours.

The kiosk allows motorists to renew eligible vehicle registrations and obtain decals without assistance from a county employee. The machines support renewals for standard passenger vehicles, motorcycles, recreational vehicles and trailers, provided no changes are needed to the vehicle's registration information.

The county began offering self-service renewals at its Decatur courthouse in February 2024 and added a machine at its Hartselle satellite office later that year. Following positive customer response, officials approved additional installations at locations throughout the county. Officials told the Hartselle Enquirer in 2025 that the goal is to make a renewal location available within 15 miles of every county resident.
