Village officials in Potsdam, New York, have approved the purchase of a self-service kiosk that will allow visitors to rent kayaks, paddleboards, and related gear at Ives Park without on-site staff, according to a WWNYTV report. The kiosk, expected to be installed near the park's boathouse, will operate daily from sunrise to sunset, expanding access for paddlers beyond traditional staffed hours.
The $17,000 investment is aimed at reducing long-term labor costs while extending both operating hours and the rental season. Recreation Director Logan Norris said staffing the boathouse previously required significant resources over several months. Officials plan to have the kiosk operational by mid-June.
