DSA Industry Excellence Awards honor best in screen media (Video)
The Digital Screenmedia Association recently handed out its 2013 DSA Industry Excellence Awards to recognize the best projects using digital signage, mobile, self-service and interactive kiosk technologies. The honors were given out at an awards dinner held in conjunction with the recent Digital Screenmedia Symposium in Dallas.
The awards covered a wide variety of deployments from retail to government solutions, and the DSA also honored an "Industry Deployer of the Year," Six Flags Entertainment Corp., and a "Network Operator of the Year," RMG Networks.
The award nominees and winners showed that the digital screenmedia industries are still trending upward, said Gary Kayye, the founder of rAVe Publications and one of the judges in the digital signage category.
"I was honored to be a judge for the second year in a row, and was floored by the quality and creativeness of this year's entries," Kayye said in an email after the awards were announced. "It's clear to me that digital signage will simply be called ADVERTISING in just a few years. This is the future of customer engagement."
The quality of the entrants also made picking winners very difficult, according to DSA Executive Director David Drain.
"The quality of the entries was very high," he said. "Several judges commented about how difficult the judging process was because there were so many good entries. People are always looking for use cases; where can you find better case studies than ones judged as excellent by your peers?"
And solutions that engaged customers with interactivity stood out this year, Drain said.
"Interactivity continues to be a dominant theme — whether it's interaction through touch, social media or augmented reality," he said. "Many of these projects engaged the customer because the customer participated in the content or the experience."
