The City of North Bend, Oregon, has received a $15,000 AARP Community Challenge Flagship Grant to install an outdoor digital kiosk at the North Bend Visitor Information Center, according to a press release. The interactive kiosk will serve as part of a new downtown community hub, providing wayfinding, visitor information, safety resources and local service information for residents, tourists, veterans and businesses. City officials said the project is intended to improve access to information, particularly for older adults and others who may have limited internet or smartphone access.
The kiosk is part of North Bend's broader Visitor Information Center Master Plan and will complement other downtown improvements, including the future Hub Rest Area and T-Mobile Plaza and Performance Corner. Building on an earlier AARP-supported wayfinding initiative, the kiosk will offer information on emergency preparedness, tsunami evacuation routes, police and fire services, local businesses, walking maps, parking, public art, museums, senior programs, accessibility resources and recreational attractions.
North Bend was among 750 projects nationwide selected to receive funding through AARP's 2026 Community Challenge program, which awarded a record $8.3 million for community improvement projects. City officials said the kiosk is designed to create a centralized source of information that helps visitors navigate downtown while connecting residents with local events, volunteer opportunities, public services and community resources.
