Seattle has launched the first of a planned network of interactive digital kiosks designed to help residents and visitors navigate the city ahead of the FIFA World Cup, according to a KING 5 News report.

The Downtown Seattle Association, working with the city and Orange Barrel Media, unveiled the first IKE Smart City kiosk near Pike Place Market. The touchscreen units provide information on restaurants, transit, events, public services and free Wi-Fi, while also offering emergency alerts and direct access to 911 services.

The initial deployment includes four kiosks downtown, with plans to expand to 30 locations before World Cup visitors begin arriving. A second phase would add 20 more kiosks in neighborhoods including Ballard, SoDo, West Seattle and the University District. City officials and downtown business leaders said the kiosks will help visitors discover local attractions, businesses and transportation options while supporting an estimated 750,000 visitors expected during the tournament.

The project, originally approved in 2025, is funded through advertising revenue rather than taxpayer dollars, with the Downtown Seattle Association projecting the network could generate more than $1 million annually to support downtown programs and beautification efforts. While some residents and design reviewers raised concerns about advertising, vandalism and privacy during the approval process, supporters argue the kiosks improve wayfinding, promote local businesses and provide useful public information for both tourists and Seattle residents.
