Beginning with Nebraska's new fiscal year, lottery tickets can now be sold through vending machines under a new state law approved during the most recent legislative session, according to a KRVN News report.
Introduced by State Sen. Dan Quick of Grand Island, the measure aligns Nebraska with nearly every other lottery state by allowing automated ticket sales.
To address concerns about underage gambling, the vending machines will include age-verification technology. Customers must scan a valid Nebraska driver's license, and the machine will verify the buyer is at least 19 years old before completing a transaction. If the customer does not meet the age requirement, the sale will be denied.
The proposal received broad legislative support, although some lawmakers voiced concerns that expanding access to lottery tickets could encourage problem gambling. Sen. Rob Clements argued that easier access could worsen financial hardship for some residents. Despite those objections, the law is now in effect, paving the way for lottery vending machines across Nebraska.
