Kiosk industry group urges broader approach to accessibility after US Access Board meeting

The Industry Group and the Kiosk Manufacturer Association said their accessibility committee met with the U.S. Access Board on Sept. 15 to discuss how people use self-service systems, according to a press release. The groups said accessibility should be considered throughout a transaction, from reaching a kiosk and navigating its interface to paying, getting help and completing the service.

The discussion covered electric vehicle charging, vending, retail, parking and government services. The committee said voice controls, mobile apps, QR codes and other technologies can improve access, but customers should have more than one way to complete a transaction.

"Today, the question is whether a customer can independently and privately complete the transaction," said Craig Allen Keefner, the association's executive director and The Industry Group's CEO.

The announcement also outlined The Industry Group's plans for TIGER 2027, a market intelligence offering scheduled to launch in January with quarterly updates and implementation analysis. The group and the association said they will participate in the Automated Retail & Kiosk Innovation Show in Miami Beach in December.
