Brigham Young University-Idaho has installed three FamilySearch kiosks that let students print cards identifying deceased relatives for religious ceremonies performed on their behalf in Latter-day Saint temples, according to a report from university's student newspaper Scroll.
Students use the FamilySearch app and scan a QR code displayed on their phones at the machines to produce the printouts.
The kiosks are located on the third floor of the David O. McKay Library, in the John Taylor Building atrium and on the second floor of the Hyrum Manwaring Center. Installation followed about a year of coordination led by university scheduling manager Trish Carvajal, who secured campus approval and found departments willing to host and maintain the equipment.
FamilySearch intern Milena Lima told the news outlet the project addresses students' frequent use of library printers to prepare names for temple visits. Hosting departments keep the kiosks supplied with paper and available for use. Library staff reported that students already were making substantial use of the service this semester.
