Legal assistance program Access to Justice and local officials in Sebastian, Florida, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 14 for a new Self-Help Center and legal kiosk at the North County Annex, according to a Sebastian Daily report. The kiosk, located at 1921 U.S. Highway 1, is designed to expand access to free legal resources for residents in northern Indian River County by allowing them to complete court documents, obtain procedural guidance and connect with support services closer to home.

The program, operated by the Clerk of the Court and Comptroller of Indian River County, assists self-represented litigants in family law, residential eviction and small claims cases. The fully accessible kiosk allows users to complete and submit court-approved forms, schedule low-cost attorney consultations via Zoom, print and scan documents, access online services and attend remote hearings. Officials emphasized that the kiosks provide procedural assistance only and do not replace licensed attorneys or legal advice.

Access to Justice said it has served more than 5,500 clients since launching in 2023. Similar legal kiosks and self-help centers are already operating at the county courthouse, the UP Center in Vero Beach and Fellsmere City Hall. The initiative is a partnership between Access to Justice, the Clerk of Court and the United Way of Indian River County, combining technology and in-person support to improve access to legal services for residents handling cases on their own.
