Byte Foods becomes Byte Technology, allowing retailers to use its unattended merchandisers

March 20, 2019

Byte Foods, a San Francisco based refreshment services company that provides refrigerated merchandisers to businesses to allow employees to pay using a credit card, has transitioned from a refreshment service provider to a technology provider, according to an email from Lee Mokri, co-founder and vice president of sales and marketing.

Now called Byte Technology, the company provides a glassfront merchandiser that has an internet-connected touchscreen and proprietary software to provide fresh meals, snacks and drinks. The screen displays the menu, the ingredients and the price for each item. Customers access the machine by swiping their credit, debit or prepaid cards.

Each item has an RFID tag in its packaging that automatically charges the payment card once the customer removes the item from the machine.
