AVT Inc., providers of automated retail technology, and Medbox, the company behind the stock-spiking marijuana-dispensing kiosks, jointly announced the development of a new system that the companies said will improve the process of storing and dispensing prescription medicine samples in doctor's offices.
The Medbox Sample Safe is designed for use in doctor's offices where samples of prescription medications are commonly misappropriated or not tracked. The unit offers precise inventory control through the use of biometric identification and an unalterable internal recordkeeping system, according to the news release.
The kiosk's benefits to pharmaceutical companies include the ability to tailor samples to certain offices as well as streamline the sales process by providing transparency, compliance and high-value data. Doctor's offices also benefit from the Medbox Sample Safe as it provides an unalterable log of medication dispensing, tracking and monitoring, the announcement said.
"Imagine if you are a pharmaceutical company representative, and now you can get an automatic text message directly from the Medbox Sample Safe machine when it is getting low on samples," said Vincent Mehdizadeh, COO of Medbox. "We are HIPAA-compliant, yet can give the pharmaceutical companies valuable demographic data on who is using their medications."
