A few lucky Walmart shoppers in Oklahoma City are the first to test an automated kiosk being used to distribute online grocery orders in under a minute.
After placing their online order, customers select self service for pickup at the store's location. They are provided a confirmation code which they then enter at the kiosk once at the store, according to a Supermarket News report.
The "24-Hour Pickup" kiosk can hold 30,000 items in a 20-foot-wide by 80-foot long container. Customers must spend at least $30 to use the kiosk service.
"All year long our customers are looking for ways to save time and money. Especially for busy families with kids, grocery shopping used to take a couple of hours on the weekend. You can now pick up your groceries in just a few minutes and have more time back in your day," spokesperson Scott Markley told Supermarket News. Walmart declined to provide any information regarding expansion of the test.
