Visit Mobile installs interactive wayfinding kiosk downtown

Tourism organization Visit Mobile has installed an interactive kiosk on Dauphin Street in downtown Mobile, Alabama, giving residents and visitors a new way to find attractions, restaurants, lodging, events and other destinations, according to a Fox 10 News report. Located in front of the Downtown Mobile Alliance, the kiosk is the result of a project that has been in development for nearly two years.

Users can browse local businesses and attractions through the touchscreen interface and send destination information to a phone or email address. They can also save locations as favorites, visit business websites and use an interactive city map. The kiosk includes a photo booth that lets visitors take free pictures with several themed frames and retrieve the images using a QR code.

Local business owner Gary Owens said the kiosk is another way Visit Mobile can help promote downtown businesses and attractions. Owens, owner of Bienville Souvenir & Gifts, said many downtown businesses are small operations that benefit from additional exposure generated by organizations such as Visit Mobile and the Downtown Mobile Alliance.
