The city of Athens, Alabama, has installed four wayfinding kiosks at key entrances to its downtown historic district to help residents and visitors navigate the area, according to a WHNT News report.

The kiosks feature maps highlighting restaurants, shops, attractions, parking areas and public spaces, with the goal of encouraging visitors to explore businesses beyond the courthouse square.

Athens is in northern Alabama near Huntsville.

The project was led by Athens Main Street and funded through a grant from Main Street Alabama. Officials said the kiosks support ongoing efforts to make downtown Athens more walkable, accessible and welcoming for both locals and tourists.

Main Street Alabama State Coordinator Mary Wirth said the kiosks complement Athens' growing reputation as a destination for shopping, dining and entertainment, according to the news outlet. The City of Athens Public Works Department handled the installation of the kiosk structures.
