VendScreen, a manufacturer of payment touchscreens for vending machines, has added Verizon Wireless as an available cellular carrier for the retrofit 3G devices it has installed on vending machines across the U.S. Previously, all VendScreen 3G devices exclusively accessed Sprint’s cellular network.
The devices are powered by a proprietary cloud-based computing platform that enables cashless transactions, nutritional information, on-screen promotions, instant help features and credit codes for refunds.
VendScreen says its devices rely on 3G networks to provide uninterrupted credit/debit card acceptance for vending purchases, as well as instant help and credit codes updates. The devices also use 3G networks for automatic updates, product and nutritional information and remote polling of transaction information and DEX data. (DEX, or digital exchange, is a data standard for the vending industry.)
“We realize that cellular coverage differs across geographic regions and carriers are a matter of personal preference,” VendScreen CEO David Granno said in the company's announcement. “We are pleased to offer Verizon as an alternative so that our vending operator customers can select their carrier of choice and the carrier that works best for each machine location.”
