Residents of La Plata County, Colorado will have a kiosk that allows them to renew vehicle registrations 24 hours a day, according to Tiffany Parker, county clerk and recorder.
Vehicle owners could pay with credit cards, e-checks or cash, and print tags at the kiosk, Parker told The Durango Herald.
"We’d be one of the pilot counties for this," Parker said. "We’d install one, and eventually, if it goes well, we could have two."
Like an ATM, there will be a $3 fee to cover the cost of the kiosk. Residents also would have the option to renew their documentation the old-fashioned way.
Parker expects the kiosk to be popular and consequently eliminate much of the manpower necessary to process renewals.
"It would be zero cost to the county, because we’re a pilot. The state would do all the installation, all the programming," Parker said.
Machines have been installed in Arapahoe County, and they’re common elsewhere, including in Arizona.
