Utility bill payment kiosks save citizens time in California town

Bill payment kiosks installed in Lodi, California, have processed more than 1,500 transactions since being installed in May and are reducing utility customer wait times, according to the Lodi News-Sentinel.

Customers use their account number or last name to pull up their account; they can then use either a credit card or cash to pay their bill without needing to speak to a customer service representative. Payments are processed the same day and there is no cost to use the kiosk.

The average transaction time is approximately 40 seconds for a credit card and 87 seconds for cash, as opposed to three minutes a customer would spend working with a customer service representative.

One kiosk is located in the lobby of the city finance department and is available during normal business hours; another is outside the entrance and is available 24/7.
