The U.S. Postal Service is expanding services at the San Luis, Arizona, post office as officials continue working to address long-standing mail delivery concerns in the border community, according to an Arizona's Family report.

Planned improvements include the installation of about 100 parcel lockers, a self-service kiosk for purchasing postage and completing select transactions, and extended retail hours with the post office opening 30 minutes earlier.

Residents welcomed the additional resources but said the changes are unlikely to resolve persistent congestion, particularly during the busy seasonal months. Some also said earlier operating hours may not adequately accommodate working families. Many continue to advocate for home mail delivery and residential mailboxes, saying they would reduce long lines and eliminate the need to visit the post office to receive mail and packages.

Federal lawmakers are continuing to press USPS for broader improvements. Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) said the agency's latest actions are a positive step but emphasized that more must be done to ensure reliable mail service for San Luis residents. Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) also welcomed the enhancements while calling for permanent home mail delivery, arguing that residents should receive the same level of postal service available in similarly sized communities elsewhere in the country.
