Tennessee drivers who believe they were improperly charged for parking, issued parking tickets in error or had their vehicles wrongfully booted can now seek compensation through a settlement with parking operator Metropolis Technologies, according to a WZTV News report. The claims process follows a $6.5 million restitution agreement reached after an investigation by the Tennessee Attorney General's Office into the company's business practices. Eligible drivers who used Metropolis-managed parking facilities between July 2021 and January 2026 can file claims for reimbursement.

The case stemmed from hundreds of consumer complaints involving parking lots that use automated technology, including license plate recognition systems and self-service parking payment systems. Some motorists reported being charged for parking sessions they never used, receiving erroneous tickets or being booted without justification. State officials said the settlement requires Metropolis to improve customer service, automatically issue refunds when technology errors occur and provide clearer pricing information at its parking facilities. Many of the affected locations relied on digital parking management systems and parking kiosks designed to streamline payment and enforcement.

Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti encouraged eligible consumers to submit claims and recover money they may be owed. Payments are expected to begin in early 2027. In addition to restitution, the settlement mandates greater transparency in parking operations, including more prominent signage, clearer pricing disclosures and improved support for drivers who encounter billing or enforcement issues. Officials said the agreement is intended to strengthen consumer protections as cities increasingly adopt automated parking technologies and kiosk-based parking systems.
