Colorado Springs adds parking kiosks, payment options

Colorado Springs, Colorado, has introduced a parking campaign called "Now You Know" to simplify parking in its downtown area and Old Colorado City, according to a KRDO News report. Upgraded meters now accept tap-to-pay, text-to-pay, ParkMobile, credit cards and coins, giving drivers more ways to pay without carrying cash or a physical card.

The city has also installed multispace kiosks along Tejon Street and Colorado Avenue, with each unit serving about five to 10 spaces. Officials said the equipment replaces aging, unreliable meters with confusing card readers and smaller screens. The city received about 150 meter-related comments during the past year but recorded only seven complaints in June and July after completing more installations.

Color-coded stickers identify three progressive-rate zones: yellow spaces start at $1.50 per hour, green spaces at $1.25 and blue spaces at $1. City-owned garages and lots charge $1 per hour, with a $12 daily maximum and a $6 rate for vehicles entering after 4 p.m. Parking in those garages and lots is free on Sundays.
