The Ohio Lottery is launching a statewide technology modernization initiative that will replace thousands of lottery terminals and self-service machines at retail locations, according to a press release. The project includes more than 12,000 clerk-operated terminals and approximately 9,000 self-service devices.

The upgrades are intended to improve the lottery purchasing experience for customers while providing retailers with updated equipment and a new gaming system.

Installation of the equipment is scheduled to begin by the end of October, with the upgraded gaming system expected to launch in spring 2027. The rollout will occur in phases, allowing retailers to transition to the new technology ahead of the systemwide conversion. The modernization represents a substantial investment in the lottery's retail infrastructure and self-service capabilities.

The self-service kiosks will initially offer scratch-off lottery tickets with cash payments only. Additional games and payment options are expected to become available when the new gaming system launches in spring 2027. The phased introduction is designed to maintain lottery sales during the transition while preparing retailers and customers for expanded functionality.
