Intersection installs Wi-Fi kiosks in Philadelphia

December 17, 2018

Intersection, a smart cities technology and media company, has begun installation of public Wi-Fi and data kiosks in Philadelphia, according to The Inquirer.

Anne Dixon, planning director for the city's office of transportation, infrastructure and sustainability, said the kiosks will offer free access to online services. The city also hopes that the kiosks, which will provide SEPTA schedules, will increase the use of public transit and help to reduce traffic congestion in Philadelphia. Intersection and Philadelphia will split ad revenues minus the installation and operating costs.

Advertisements will cost $25 per 1,000 views. Geopath, a third-party service, will use foot traffic and census data to determine the number of views per kiosk.

Intersection will check the devices regularly, a spokesman said, and an automated system will alert the company when problems occur.
