Elo intros interactive Android engine

Elo has launched Elo Backpack, an Android-powered engine that can turn any Elo touchscreen into a complete media platform. The product is designed specifically for kiosk companies, digital signage providers and POS system managers, according to a press release.

The Elo Backpack features a low-power fanless design. The solution runs Android 7.1 and includes two USB 2.0 ports to accommodate peripherals for scanning, payment, printing and biometrics. Other features include:

  • Connectivity options for Elo touchscreen display: Ethernet, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HDMI output, micro-SD and GPIO.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 professor for full HD.
  • Integrated X9 LTE.
  • Octa-core ARM cortex A52 64-bit CPU.

"The new Elo Backpack turns touchscreen monitors and displays into fully connected systems with limitless interactive experience possibilities," Elo CEO Craig Witsoe said in the release. "The success of our customers deploying our small-format I-Series touchscreens is just the beginning. We're excited to bring the flexibility of the Android mobile architecture to Elo's broader touchscreen portfolio while simplifying deployment and management via our EloView software."
