The Abilene Public Library in Texas is expanding public access to technology by installing self-service laptop kiosks at its branches inside the G.V. Daniels Recreation Center and the Sears Recreation Center, according to a press release.

The new systems, provided by LaptopsAnytime, each offer 12 laptops available for in-library use by patrons with library cards.

Library visitors can access the laptops by scanning their library card and entering a PIN at the kiosk, which automatically dispenses a device for use inside the facility. Library officials said the systems are designed to help residents complete homework, search for jobs, access online resources and perform other digital tasks. All laptops connect to the facility's WiFi and are available on a first-come, first-served basis during operating hours.

After use, patrons return the laptops directly to the kiosk, where the devices are automatically reset and recharged for the next user. Library officials said the kiosks support privacy, security and easier technology access throughout the community.

LaptopsAnytime provides automated laptop-lending systems for libraries, schools and public facilities that distribute, monitor and manage shared laptop inventories through self-service kiosks.
