Virginia Tech basketball coaches use kiosk for recruiting

November 26, 2013

Interactive Design & Development, a custom software digital agency, announced a new project with Virginia Tech Athletics called Hokie Hoops, an interactive touchscreen kiosk recruiting application for the Hahn Hurst Basketball Practice Center, according to a news release.

The interactive touchscreen kiosk showcases the players, coaches and facility history in an interactive, large-screen format. Another goal of the software application is to be a portable recruiting tool. The 55-inch monitor projects the application and is operated by a wall-mounted tablet by ArmorActive.

The coaches can travel with the tablet on recruiting trips and present the application to families. The app allows coaches to showcase a basketball club that honors the players and the institution. The kiosk currently shows the men's basketball team, and the women's team will join them in the coming months.

The touchscreen kiosk software is built on a content management system, giving users the power to grow, edit and manage content as their message changes from anywhere, anytime, the release said. The built-in "timeline scroll" feature allows visitors to browse multiple pieces of organized information the touchscreen interface. The application supports video, audio, full branding control, powerful visuals, easy-to-use editors, and usage analytics and reporting.

"For our fans, our alumni, and our students, I want them to be able to come into this building anytime they want — click on the kiosk — and read about or see a video of our program," said James Johnson, coach of the VT men's basketball team.
