Singapore Prison System expands iKiosk deployment

September 19, 2013

The Singapore Prison Service will expand its deployment of the Inmate Self-Service Kiosk, or iKiosk, across its 14 prisons, an article on futuregov.asia reported.

The iKiosk is designed to address common rehabilitation needs, giving inmates the ability to check outcomes of their requests, apply for jobs and obtain up-to-date information of their rehabilitation process.

Kuai Ser Leng, senior assistant director of technology for the Singapore Prison Service, said interacting with the technology is an important step toward the ultimate goal of reintegrating the inmates into society.

"The iKiosk allows inmates to perform routine and administrative tasks by themselves and inculcate a sense of ownership in their personal transformation journey and well-being, which complements our rehabilitation efforts, he said in the article. "It is also beneficial for inmates to familiarize themselves with the use of technology so that they acclimatize to new technologies after they are released."
