Shuttle Computer Group and ScholarChip have teamed up to create a kiosk system designed to keep track of student and staff school attendance.
The portable kiosk incorporates Shuttle's X50 all-in-one computer with ScholarChip's software and accessories that capture attendance at a rate over 40 students per minute.
"Shuttle is known for working closely with its partners to create customized products for integration and OEM," Marty Lash, director of sales and marketing at City of Industry, California-based Shuttle Computer Group, said in a statement.
The customized kiosk includes two screens which display student photos as their contactless NFC-based ID card is waived near the card readers. A printer attached to the kiosk creates temporary IDs and late passes. When connected to a network, attendance is monitored in real-time, giving administrators security information as well as accurate student counts used in state funding.
"With Shuttle's assistance, we now offer schools an integrated school attendance kiosk, allowing students to register their demographics, attendance, and location with the tap of their smart-ID,” Dr. Maged Atiya, ScholarChip’s CTO, said in a statement. “This is the first instance of a high-volume, industrial-strength, NFC touchscreen PC."
The Shuttle/ScholarChip kiosks can be configured to generate audio and a visual alert for students with open attendance or discipline issues. They can also display a student-specific message issued by school administrators.
With additional hardware, a kiosk may capture visitor information and issue visitor passes. Wall mounted kiosks are also available.
