Fans attending Toronto Maple Leafs and Raptors games at Scotiabank Arena will now have more ways to skip concession lines thanks to new food and drink self-checkouts powered by Amazon's "Just Walk Out" technology, according to a DH Sports report.
Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment announced the upgrades as part of a $350 million renovation project that has been underway since 2023. Nine food stands on the arena's 300 level have been revamped, with nearly half featuring the automated checkout system.
The technology allows customers to tap a credit card when entering and be automatically charged for their purchases upon exit using generative AI, computer vision and deep learning to detect items. Similar systems were introduced on the 100 level before the 2023–24 season.
"Our investment and commitment to elevating the venue will continue with more exciting changes to come for our fans as we imagine new possibilities over future phases of the project," Nick Eaves, chief operating officer at MLSE, told the news outlet.
Renovations also include upgraded audio and video systems, expanded retail spaces and new club suites on the arena's upper levels.
