Austin, Texas-based logistics technology company Outpost has introduced a second-generation automated gate platform designed to reduce gate operating costs and speed deployment for industrial facilities and truck terminals, according to a press release.
The company said the new ruggedized kiosk system can be installed in as little as one day, a significant reduction from traditional automated gate systems that often require months of installation work. Outpost said the platform now processes more than 3 million gate events annually across more than 30 terminals and customer locations.
The upgraded kiosks were redesigned based on operational lessons learned from large-scale deployments in industrial environments. Features include reinforced hardware protections intended to shield the systems from damage caused by passing truck mirrors, as well as integrated cameras, touchscreens, driver's license and QR code scanners, HID badge readers and built-in edge AI computing. According to the company, the systems can replace manual gate staffing operations that may cost more than $25,000 per gate each month.
A major enhancement to the platform is a new engine-canceling microphone system designed specifically for noisy diesel truck environments. Outpost Chief Technology Officer Greg Akselrod said traditional noise-canceling systems are not designed to handle truck yard conditions. The company developed a custom digital signal processor paired with high-powered speakers that allow drivers to communicate with operators or AI voice systems without turning off engines or leaving their vehicles.
The platform also enhances fraud prevention and inspection capabilities through full-color driver's license scanning that verifies security features, such as holograms and microprint, rather than relying solely on barcode scans. The system cross-references vehicle and carrier information against stored records while also capturing detailed condition reports for trailers and equipment. Outpost said customer adoption has accelerated since the platform's initial 2025 launch, with contracts signed for 50 additional locations during the first four months of 2026.
