Amazon expands locker network to more than 750 college locations

Amazon has expanded its Locker network to more than 750 locations across more than 500 U.S. college and university campuses, according to a press release. The expansion gives students additional places to securely receive eligible Amazon orders near where they live and attend classes, with some campuses offering multiple pickup locations.

Students can select a campus Locker as their delivery location during checkout at no additional charge. Once an order arrives, Amazon sends pickup instructions that allow customers to open the Locker using a code, barcode or the Amazon Shopping app. Packages remain available for three calendar days before unclaimed orders are returned and refunded. Students can also authorize someone else to retrieve a package by forwarding the delivery confirmation and pickup instructions.

The campus installations are part of Amazon's broader network of more than 25,000 package pickup locations across the United States. Viraj Chatterjee, vice president of Amazon Transportation, said the expansion is intended to make package retrieval fit more easily into students' schedules by placing pickup points within the flow of campus life.

Amazon is also promoting its Prime for Young Adults program to college students and people ages 18 to 24. The membership costs $7.49 per month or $69 annually, about half the standard Prime price, and includes Prime delivery and entertainment benefits along with 5% cash back in certain categories. Young adults can verify eligibility using government-issued identification, while students at two- and four-year colleges can qualify using a .edu email address.
