The New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications will launch a bus arrival-time pilot program across 29 LinkNYC kiosks in Brooklyn City Council District 39, according to a press release.
Using bus time data, arrival information for buses within a short walking distance of Link kiosks will be broadcast on 55-inch digital displays on the sides of the kiosks. LinkNYC will launch the bus arrival-time service throughout all five New York City boroughs in the coming weeks.
"From voter registration to healthcare enrollment, and now with real-time bus information on Brooklyn kiosks, LinkNYC has once again proven to be more than just fast and free Wi-Fi," Samir Saini, commissioner of the technology and telecommunications department, said in the release.
In addition to free Wi-Fi, Link kiosks provide free phone calling, device charging, a tablet to access maps, 311 calling for city services, the social services platform Aunt Bertha, and access to 911 emergency services. All Link services are free for users and come at no cost to taxpayers.
