Inmate kiosk helping Missouri jail cut back on cash

July 1, 2013

Missouri's Scott County Jail is attempting to do away with cash with the deployment of a self-service kiosk from Irvine, Calif.-based EZ Card and Kiosk.

According to an article from Standard Democrat, Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said the jail is trying to get away from handling any cash at all.

"The old kiosk could receive money for inmates to use for the commissary and that was it," he said. "We are able to use this one for several different things. It went online June 20."

The new kiosk system has the ability to accept bonds paid by credit card, debit card or cash at the kiosk located in the jail's secure lobby, according to the article.
