InLink, a company that has installed hundreds of Wi-Fi kiosks in the U.K., recently entered administration, the British form of bankruptcy, due to delays in getting permission to continue its expansion, according to a report in The Telegraph.
The company, a joint venture between Intersection, an American advertising business which has been backed by Google's parent company, and outdoor media company Primesight, faced opposition from local governments and from the Metropolitan Police.
BT had partnered with InLink to run its telecoms network of kiosks that replace telephone booths and provide free phone calls, Wi-Fi and phone charging.
InLink employees complained that every kiosk often took more than five months to install due to planning requirements, according to an internal company document The Telegraph acquired.
