Indians adopting kids via kiosks

India is using kiosks to help with the adoption process, according to a story on CNN-IBN. The Department of Women Development and Child Welfare is opening Internet kiosks after working with the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd for more than a year to create kiosks equipped with touchscreens and Telugu interactive voice systems to help illiterate people use the facility, said K Padmaja, assistant director.

"The machines with Telugu audio will help reduce public queues at offices for information on schemes, eliminate paperwork and improve efficiency. People can download applications for schemes free of cost with the help of an operator appointed by the ECIL," Padmaja said. The department had already conducted a trial run based on which minister for Women Development and Child Welfare Sunitha Laxma Reddy had suggested some changes. "Once the data is updated, we will inaugurate the kiosks," Padmaja said.
