Ford reviews self-checkout kiosks after more workers fired over alleged snack thefts

At least four additional Ford employees have been fired recently over accusations that they took snacks without paying at self-checkout kiosks inside company plants, according to a New York Post report.

Among them is Nick Nabozny, a nearly nine-year employee at Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant, who was accused of failing to pay for Doritos and Ritz crackers. Nabozny said he scanned the products, tapped his debit card and believed the kiosk had accepted the payment.

Workers said the Aramark-operated kiosks have experienced failed transactions, duplicate charges, frozen screens and missing receipts.

At least three Michigan Assembly employees dismissed in similar cases were later reinstated after investigations cleared them. Ford and Aramark said they are reviewing the disputed transactions and reports of limited kiosk malfunctions but declined to address individual cases.

The controversy follows the dismissal of Kentucky Truck Plant electrician Kurt Kromm over a $1.95 package of cookies. Bank records later showed that his payment had been processed even though the kiosk displayed an error. Ford reinstated Kromm and paid about $33,000 in back wages, but he declined to return and retained an attorney who plans to pursue claims against Ford and Aramark.
