A customer at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey reported a $1.70 charge for removing an egg from a steak, egg and cheese sandwich when ordering at a kiosk, according to a Nerd Stash report.
The customer shared a receipt on Reddit showing the charge, while a request to leave off mayonnaise carried no additional cost.
The post drew reactions from users criticizing airport food prices and questioning why omitting an ingredient would cost extra. The customer later suggested the charge likely resulted from a kiosk programming error, noting that $1.70 was also the price to add an egg.
One commenter, who claimed to repair kiosks, suggested the removal option may have been configured with an incorrect price adjustment. That explanation was not independently confirmed in the report.
