Connected Technology Solutions has achieved 5 million patient check-ins on its Patient PassPort Express kiosks from 2007 to 2010, according to eWeek.
The kiosks allow patients to check in sans paper. Instead of waiting in line to see a clerk, patients patients can update medical histories, use an electronic signature pad to sign documents and make credit card copayments on kiosks. They can also verify insurance information, remind patients of future appointments and retrieve patient data, including name, address and date of birth, to display on-screen for patients.
However, the units don't store patient records. It deletes a patient's personal information at the end of a transaction. Patients can print HIPAA forms and other documentation via a printer contained within the kiosk to keep transactions private.
