More than $100 million worth of prescription medicine is stolen each year, an issue that a new kiosk may curb. Medbox Inc. is developing a highly secure, automated kiosk for the storage of medicine supplies within doctor's offices. The system, which uses biometric fingerprint recognition, stores medicines and only allows authorized individuals to obtain access, according to a company press release.
The system also provides a permanent record of each retrieval — archiving the name of the individual that obtained the medicine, the time of day, the name and quantity of the medicine, and a photograph of the event.
