Apex Supply Chain Technologies introduces hot holding device for order pickup

Apex Supply Chain Technologies has introduced a heated order pick-up station with self-serve automation technology, according to a press release.

The device has a two-sided design for rear loading of orders. This allows employees to focus on order preparation while giving mobile order customers an instantly recognizable destination where they can quickly pick up an order.

The self-serve station eliminates issues caused by increased order throughput and an unclear, inconsistent experience for mobile order customers.

The device pairs easily with existing mobile apps, allowing customers to order and pay using their smartphone. A notification to the customer is triggered automatically when the finished order is placed in one of the heated compartments. This alert includes a single-use code that the arriving customer can use to open the secure compartment and retrieve the order, getting in and out of the store within seconds, the release said.

Most of the restaurant and foodservice industries' mobile order and pay programs do not consider how store operations will handle additional order throughput, according to the press release. As a result, mobile order pickup service can be inefficient, requiring multiple employee touches.

In addition, mobile order customers are often unsure of how to pick up their orders. Combined with in-store customer traffic, this can lead to congestion, line anxiety and lost sales, the release said.
