With Black Friday almost here and the winter shopping season moving into full swing, retailers need to be sure they have reliable connectivity for the mobile orders consumers will be placing in greater numbers. Reliable and secure connectivity represents an important challenge as interactive media continues to expand at a rapid rate, driven by the consumer reliance on mobile media and an expanding media infrastructure.

Jason Dorough, vice president of enterprise sales at Digi International, a global provider of mission-critical and business-critical machine-to-machine and Internet of Things connectivity products and services, offers an overview of the hardware and software that companies need when they embark on this journey in a podcast, "Achieving Connectivity Integrity." The podcast explores what companies and organizations need to consider when embarking on an interactive digital journey. Dorough also discusses the IT skills and external resources needed to have a digital presence.

Reliability is of critical concern for an online entity, as a business cannot continue to function with unreliable connectivity.

Security is of equal concern, given the increase in hacking incidents and the growing sophistication of hackers.

According to a recent study by Opus and Ponemon, 59% of companies have experienced a data breach caused by one of their vendors or third parties. In the U.S., that percentage is even higher at 61% – up 5% over last year’s study and a 12% increase since 2016. More than three-quarters of organizations believe that third-party cybersecurity incidents are increasing.
