HealthSpot signs up Cleveland Clinic, Kaiser Permanente

May 21, 2014

Cleveland Clinic and telemedicine kiosk company HealthSpot have signed a letter of intent to form a joint venture offering patients access to healthcare through HealthSpot's virtual walk-in remote diagnostics kiosks. Separately, HealthSpot announced its first kiosk implementation in California in partnership with Kaiser Permanente San Diego.

HealthSpot stations — private, 8-by-5-foot enclosures outfitted with touchscreens; integrated medical devices including stethoscopes, scales and blood pressure cuffs; and two-way videoconferencing capabilities — will enable Cleveland Clinic medical providers to see and treat patients in a variety of non-traditional health care settings, such as universities, employers and retail stores. Each station is supported by an on-site accredited medical assistant.

In May 2013, Cleveland Clinic launched a one-year pilot of HealthSpot stations in three of its family health centers and received an overall 93 percent patient satisfaction score, the two companies said in a news release.

HealthSpot has also partnered with Kaiser Permanente San Diego to deliver a pilot station to a key Kaiser Permanente customer, an employee group in San Diego, California.

The partnership with HealthSpot enables Kaiser Permanente to extend its health care provider services by creating a new point of care for patients at a time and place that is convenient for them, the companies said.

"We have created a system that leverages the expertise of Kaiser Permanente's providers to give care that is integrated at the local level," HealthSpot founder and CEO Steve Cashman said in a statement.  "We have seen positive results from the initial pilot so far."
