DryBox kiosks, which dry and restore water-logged phones, are being tested at several Walmart locations, according to RCRWireless News. People whose phones have been submerged in water can take the phone to the kiosk, swipe a payment card at the kiosk and place the phone in a secure vacuum chamber in the kiosk for 30 minutes to evaporate the water.
Cost for the service, which claims more than a 70 percent success rate when phones are dried within 24 hours of liquid exposure, is $40, according to Fox 13 in Tampa, Florida.
DryBox creator David Naumann said a lot of times, moisture depletes the battery, so the phone has to be recharged.
If the process doesn't restore the phone, the customer can apply to get their money back on the DryBox website.
