Port Metro Vancouver is speeding up the boarding process for cruise ship passengers with automated passport control kiosks, according to a report by Travel Pulse.
The port is using 10 BorderXpress kiosks, which are utilized in multiple airports across North America. In order to use the kiosk, travelers scan their passports and answer a few questions. According to the report, this will shorten wait times by allowing customs officers to process four times as many people as usual.
Petter Xotta, vice president of planning and operations for the port, was confident the kiosks would enhance overall customer experience, and make Port Metro stand out.
"With this launch, Port Metro Vancouver's cruise terminal has become the first worldwide to utilize automated passport control technology for U.S.-bound passengers," Xotta said in an interview with Travel Pulse.
